Rotherham head the market

Paul Warne left Rotherham in the lurch last season by heading off to Derby, nevertheless, they managed to retain their Championship status post arrival from League One after new boss Matt Taylor managed to guide them to safety.

Only bottom side Wigan have won fewer games than the Millers last season but a league-high 17 draws saw them grind their way to survival, losing the fewest games of any team in the bottom nine.

Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson impressed and his side face a battle to hold on to him and Chiedozie Ogbene after sealing their second-tier status.

Rotherham will be hoping to retain their services but the size of their budget, relative to some of the other teams in the division, means they will almost always be near the head of the market for the drop.

Usual suspects expected to be in battle

Of the first seven in the betting for Championship relegation, five finished in the bottom eight last season so the bookmakers have not given those that stayed up much chance of pulling away from the drop zone this time around.

Birmingham and QPR are third in the market at 3/1, despite the Blues looking as if their ownership issues may eventually be coming to an end.

As for the R’s, their form collapsed late in the season and Gareth Ainsworth will need to hope they don’t continue that into the new campaign.

Huddersfield boss Neil Warnock has confirmed he will stay for one final season but his side remain 10/3 shots for the drop despite the veteran having been able to navigate a path to safety last time around.

Promoted duo fancied to avoid drop

Plymouth are second-favourites for relegation at 7/4, despite the fact that they won League One last season, while fellow promoted sides Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich are both hold much bigger prices for the drop.

Darren Moore left the Owls by mutual consent recently but that hasn’t had a massively adverse effect on their price, and they are 9/2 to be relegated.

at an even more impressive price are the are big-budget Ipswich, who are expected to back manager Kieran McKenna in the transfer market now they are back in the second tier and are 9/1 to go down.
