Promoted pair odds on for an immediate return

Championship play-off winners have fared well in recent years with Brentford and Nottingham Forest consolidating in the Premier League, but Luton are expected to face a difficult campaign and are 4/11 to make an immediate return to the Championship.

Luton kicked off their summer transfer business with deals for winger Chiedozie Ogbene and central defender Mads Anderson, but their squad is desperately short of top-flight experience.

Sheffield United are given a better chance than the Hatters of staying up, although they are still rated likely relegation candidates at 8/13 for the drop.

The Blades have released striker Billy Sharp and a new front man is sure to be near the top of their wanted list.

Burnley given best chance of bridging the gap

urnley amassed 101 points on their way to winning the 2022-23 Championship title but they are just 7/4 to make an immediate return to the second tier.

Head coach Vincent Kompany handed the Clarets a major boost by signing a new five-year-contract and he has set about improving the squad.

Defender Jordan Beyer and striker Michael Obafemi have been snapped up from Borussia Monchengladbach and Swansea after successful loan spells, and centre-back Dara O'Shea has arrived from West Brom.

Toffees, Cherries and Forest hoping to avoid another season of struggle

Three clubs stayed up last season with fewer than 40 points, including Everton, whose 36-point tally was just two above the drop zone.

The Toffees have battled successfully against the drop for the last two seasons and, although they are just 3/1 to be relegated, they will be hoping for a more comfortable experience in their first full campaign under Sean Dyche.

While Everton have stuck with their manager, Bournemouth took the surprise decision to replace Gary O'Neil with Andoni Iraola.

The Cherries did some early business by snapping up winger Justin Kluivert from Roma but they are 7/4 for a bottom-three finish.

Nottingham Forest produced a strong finish last season to end up four points clear of the drop zone and will be hoping to push towards mid-table.

They are 11/4 shots for relegation and are expecting a much quieter transfer window than the summer of 2022 when 21 new players were brought in.

There is always scope for a surprise

West Ham were surprise strugglers last season, finishing 14th, and their experience is likely to be a warning to clubs like Brighton and Aston Villa, who must juggle European commitments with Premier League games.

Brighton are 50/1 to finish in the drop zone while Villa, who have excelled under Unai Emery, are a 40/1 chance.

The Hammers, who won the Europe Conference League, should know what to expect but they are 14/1 to be relegated after selling star player Declan Rice to London rivals Arsenal.
